The students returned this week with some great energy as we jumped into some games and reexamined a significant grammar focus of the last semester. In addition to this, students also had the opportunity to both share stories of their vacations both verbally and in writing.
We began with a game that asked students to match words by their category so that they could win the game. Students competed with a lot of energy and had very creative explanations. As we moved beyond this, we worked on better understanding of singular and plural nouns as students changed singular nouns into plural using both irregular and regular examples. This provided another opportunity to see the weak points in their usage and words that we can build upon.
Later, students were able to work together as a class to change sentences with singular nouns to sentences with plural nouns while adapting articles and verbs accordingly. Upon completing this task, students had the opportunity to choose a writing topic or write about the events of their vacation. This was both a productive week and a nice chance for the class to get acclimated again. I look forward to an eventful semester with them.
