As many students progressed through the activities of last week, there was some opportunity to work through some free flowing and investigative assignments that still allowed students evaluate and examine the same concepts.
Students attention was directed toward uses of the past tense they found most troublesome, and they were able to develop a better foundation in them by rediscovering them in crosswords, code breaking assignments, and word searches.
Meanwhile, some students who were even able to progress past these assignments found themselves testing their understanding of how to use singular and plural nouns appropriately in a sentence, especially with phrases containing "there is/there are".
Finally, the class was able to delve into developing sentences with proper nouns and looking for when to capitalize them. This will still be an area of much needed further attention, but the students were able to bridge the concept before having the opportunity to examine it with more repetition.
As we move forward, many of these skills will continue be reexamined and provided specific focus toward each student. Nonetheless, some students that have progressed in these areas will be challenged in areas of phonics and spelling. I look forward to seeing their continued growth and effort toward these challenges.
